High tofu consumption may raise risk of dementia

There has been some research suggesting that high tofu consumption might be associated with an increased risk of dementia, particularly in older adults. A study conducted on elderly Indonesians found that consuming tofu at least once a day was linked to worse memory, especially among those over 68 years old. The researchers hypothesized that the high levels of phytoestrogens (plant-based compounds that mimic estrogen) in tofu might be responsible for this effect.

However, it's important to note that this is still an area of ongoing research, and the findings are not conclusive. Other studies have shown mixed results, and more research is needed to fully understand the relationship between tofu consumption and dementia risk.

In the meantime, moderation is key. Enjoying tofu as part of a balanced diet, along with other foods rich in nutrients like folate, might be a good approach.
